Branson could be more comfortable

Did Columbus State University men's basketball coach Doug Branson save his job Wednesday night?

The Cougars, fresh from four straight loses on the road, returned to the Lumpkin Center and upset No. 8 Augusta State in a thriller.

Branson, in his third year directing CSU, has been in an uncomfortable position with a multitude of close losses, internal turmoil on the team and a shortage of fannies in the seats. His victory over nationally ranked Augusta could make life more comfortable.

I just found your blog and thought I would leave a timely comment about Coach Branson.

There are a bunch of us old Cougar Basketball fans that are not very supportive of Coach Branson. Right now I am waiting to see who he signs. We have an annual need to sign a big man that can play with the USC Aiken and Augusta post players. A shooting guard who doesn't go through fifteen minutes without being able to hit something and a point who can handle the ball if you have a lead at the end of the game. A tall order! Ha!

The turmoil last year was I believed caused by Branson's lack of leadership ability. Losing big leads, losing big players, losing personal control during a post game show and signing players who were overhyped (too slow and inconsistent) to play at this level
placed the monkey on his back.

Herbert Greene is hard to follow. He spoiled us with success. It's the old Bear Bryant successor situation.

Even though it is June, I feel strongly that Branson should seek a coaching job at a lower level and work his way back. He just doesn't have the head coaching experience that we need at CSU in men's basketball. The story was unfortunately published that Branson was chosen because he would take the job for less money.
The person who gave the press that story embarrassed the university in my opinion. Even though it's true.

Maybe the new President wil be a basketball fan!
